Cover Letters that Get Job Interviews

July 3rd, 2009 by processor

In the slow economy Americans now face, with the job market shrinking just a little bit every day, the competition is fiercer than ever to find and secure good-paying, skilled jobs in a number of fields. As popular as the resume may be in helping land the coveted interview and a shot at the big time, no less important is the cover letter that accompanies it. A very good reason for this? Employers want to see a sample of your communication skills, whether or not you can convey your thoughts well in written form, and in turn put those same skills to proper use in a position with their company. A resume, while professional enough, lacks a certain ‘heart’. The resume is almost automatic, robotic in its presentation, and written without any real flair or passion or charisma that so many employers most want to see. How can you really express yourself from the inside in a resume, apart from presenting your skills, your education and a brief background of your experience?

The cover letter, or the letter of introduction, when included with a resume, puts you at the top of the ’slush pile’ of applicants, and when written correctly, shows the employer your personality. If that sounds silly, think a moment about your attitude when you read about a job opening. Are you excited about it, because you fit the qualifications perfectly? Or are you less than enthusiastic about it, and figure ‘What the heck, I’ll apply.’? First off, don’t apply for the job if it doesn’t fit your needs. This letter is going to illustrate your FEELINGS, so make sure you are really excited about this particular job position, and you think that it meets your expectations 100%.

Writing the Opening

Start out with your basic formal and courteous greeting. Identify yourself, where you live, your reason for writing, and what you are looking for. Some examples:

“Dear Mr. Temple:

My name is Paul Ryan, from Cleveland, Ohio. I’ve buy Allegra online an engineer for approximately 10 years, but was recently laid off after a series of cutbacks initiated by upper management. I read about a job opening in the Plain Dealer last Friday, and after looking through the needed requirements, the skills being sought and the location for the job, this particular position would be a perfect fit for me.”

“To the management of Empress Maids:

Hello! My name is Carol Wilde, a recent arrival to your city from Los Angeles. My reason for writing to you today is in response to an advertisement that was seen at my local library, requesting the need for someone to assist in administration duties with Empress Maids Cleaning Service. Having been a housekeeper for several years, along with possessing clerical and secretarial skills, it seemed a great idea for me to apply and offer my resume.”

Notice that the pronoun “I” is not used heavily. You want the employer to see you as confident, not arrogant. Nothing turns off an employer faster than saying, “I can do this, I can do that. I feel qualified. I am the man (or woman) for the job.” Also, it’s a good idea not to go overboard with long words, or unnecessary verbiage. Ask any screenwriter — it’s very difficult to express tone and mood through words alone. The two examples show applicants who seem motivated, excited and friendly. As this is the first part of your letter, it’s the ‘establishing shot’, so to speak.

A Little About Me

Again, try not to go on and on about yourself. Remember, it’s a “little”. Just talk about your experiences for a few sentences, and any notable highlights you feel are important or interesting enough to warrant mentioning because it can have an impact on the employer’s decision in the long run. Remember that you have a resume that tells about your experience too, so don’t get carried away and talk too much about one particular job or position. Let’s see what Paul and Carol write next:

Paul: “Hanover Incorporated has been my primary place of employment the last ten years, since graduating with Honors from Pitt University in 1997. I was very fortunate to have bumped into this position after meeting with my career counselor, Brenda Baxter, in my senior year, and she was very helpful in getting me in the door. Since that time, my duties varied from field work to blueprints and technical applications. My concentration in the past few years has been in the field of digital designs and CAD, which is one of the main requirements you are seeking for the engineering candidacy at Temple Inc. My work was also instrumental in the design and construction of a power plant currently located in Toledo, Ohio, now offering electricity to nearly 500,000 people.”

Smooth, Paul. This is excellent. Already we know a little more about Paul’s expertise, his education and some significant events. Notice too that we can tell that Paul is able to work well with others, and is obviously quick to give credit where it is due. Paul would be effective in a supervisory role at some point, no question about that. Mr. Temple would certainly look at Paul as a good choice so far!

Carol: “My background in housekeeping spans approximately 20 years, actually for as long as my twin sons have lived within the family home. Since they have gone away to law school now, I felt it was a good time to re-enter the work force. My clerical and office skills come from my years before marriage, when I worked part-time in between college degrees as a data entry supervisor, responsible for maintaining databases, producing reports and handling numerous job requests from my co-workers, such as light computer repair, spell-checking and phone calls. My experiences in a bustling office environment, combined with several years of knowledge in housekeeping and good cleaning skills, make me a good candidate for the position of Administrator for Empress Maids.”

Very well done, Carol. In a few sentences, she tells us that she’s a wonderful mother who has provided for her family, has exceptional clerical and administrative skills, and is really confident about what she can do. We can tell she obviously has done a great job raising her sons, if they are off to law school — and she’s well-educated herself. From here, we can see that she’s competent, versatile and determined. These are some amazing qualities employers really want to see that stand out from the pack.

In Closing

It’s important to thank the employer for his or her time, and mention the resume if you like. You do not really need to say anything else. Do NOT try “I really hope you hire me.” or “I really need this job.” or even “You’ll be very glad you picked me.” That just defeats the message you were trying to convey to the employer in the first place.

Paul: “In closing, thank you very much for your time and the consideration of the enclosed resume. Have a great week and hope to hear from you.”

Sincerely,

Paul Ryan

————-

Carol: “I hope my resume meets with your approval. Thank you very much for your time and am looking forward to a possible interview with you in the future.”

Respectfully,

Carol Wilde

That’s it. Short and sweet. Your cover letter should segue seamlessly to your resume. When the employer has had a chance to see a little of your communication and writing techniques, and a peek into your personality, you can be sure that the employer will consider it a pleasure to meet you face to face. It can also guarantee that your resume will get a lot more than a casual once-over — provided your resume is just as hot, of course!

Natural Cure For Yeast Infection

July 2nd, 2009 by processor

Candida is an organism that can be found in different parts of the body, including the natural vaginal flora of a woman. This causes no infection, however, when the body undergo certain changes in acids, fungal infections occur which leads the organism to overgrow and multiply.

Different persons experience different signs of yeast infection. The infection can be accompanied by varying levels of itchiness, soreness, odourless discharge, urinary pains, and exhaustion. Some infections can be caused by misapplication of steroids and antibiotics.

There are certain measures that you can take to help you treat yeast infection. If you’re thinking that only well-off people can afford to be infection-free, think again. Costly commercial products are not the only way you can get rid of this virus, natural treatments can actually serve as a better remedy because synthetic products are high in chemicals that usually have side-effects. Also, natural home remedies are safe to be used regularly, and can be accompanied with pharmaceutical remedy recommended by doctors.

Knowing what to eat can help the yeast infections to find their way out of your body, so it is always important to pay attention to what foods should be and should not be avoided.

Remedies containing boric acid can cure yeast infection naturally by inserting the capsule to the vagina at night for at least 3 days to a week. This should not be mistakenly taken orally, and just like other things, overuse can be harmful. Doing such may cause further irritation and discomfort.

One of the most common and most recommended natural remedy is yogurt that even physician recommends. The Lactobacillus acidophilus it contains produce hydrogen peroxide that helps kill unhealthy bacteria in the vagina. Acidophilus is a kind of bacterium that can also be found in healthy vaginas. All you have to do is apply it 1-2 times a day. Just make sure that the yogurt you will use is unflavored and doesn’t contain additional sugar. There are also acidophilus pills available in the local supermarket or drug stores. Choose the pill that is soft enough to melt, and insert it to the vagina.

If you don’t want the idea of inserting pills or applying yogurt to your sensitive skin, you may consider eating a lot of yogurt. By taking it orally, certain amount of acidophilus would enter your digestive system, moving slowly down the anus part, and to your vagina.

Even in the perimeters of your kitchen, you can already find helpful remedies such as garlic. This pungent kind of spices contains antifungal substances that kill off the infection. Tea tree oil can also be used to fight yeast infection. According to pharmacists, the top half of a non-applicator type of tampon with lubricant should be coated, with a few drops of pure tea tree oil. Examples of lubricants are K.Y. jelly or olive oil. Presence of lubricants is required for it keeps the tea tree oil from absorbing the tampon. In US, tea tree oil is readily available in many food stores. And in Italy, it is widely used for treating the infections.

There is also a traditional remedy known as Gentian Violet that is used to be in line with antifungals and antibiotics. Some pharmacies still carry it, usually you can find it in the area where iodine is placed.

Lastly, cranberries can also remove the infection. Though it is most commonly used for treating urinary tract infections, the substances it contains prevent bacteria from residing in your urinary tract. If urine is acidic, it may pass though infected parts, thus, aggravating the infection. That’s why cranberries can be helpful because it lowers the urine acid.

Yeast infections are also characterized with itchiness and irritation, so to relieve vulvar itching, anti-fungal treatment can be accompanied with relievers such as slippery elm powder mixed with a little water, or a cotton pad soaked in aloe vera. It can be applied to the vulva as needed.

Rohan Online Elf Templar Class Build (Pure PvE/Pure PvP)

July 1st, 2009 by processor

This is an awesome build for generic Cialis Elf Templar, great at PvE and great at PvP. Templars are in a sense battle priests. They are extremely difficult to kill in PvP and PvE making it easy to solo and great in parties.

Stat Build: This builds points are mostly distributed in Psyche but has some points in intelligence too. The main reason I put points into intelligence is to get the most out of the Hammer based attacks and the DoT’s (Poison). This also leaves room to add skill points to some of the intelligence/psyche based healing and attack spells. I suggest if you get enough skill stones from cash shop or finding them from mobs you shoudl put them in Mental Barrier or Party Absorb HP, and Absorb HP.

PvE: You have access to Magic Barrier and MP barrier making you impenetrable and nearly impossible to kill. With these skills in your arsenal you will be able to take on multiple mobs at the same time and destroying then quickly without seeing your HP bar ever go down. Doing your quests and solo grinding is a breeze, your only problem is that you might get bored lol. This build allows you to be able to tank some smaller bosses and not feel much pain. However larger bosses that have alot of HP and do alot of damage it might not be a good idea to tank since you have very low hp. This build even allows you to act as a priest in a party if a pure priest cannot be found. Has good healing and good ressurection skills. Unfortunately you can do the killing in the party and need to focus on party survival unless you are great at doing some light killing and healing at the same time :)

PvP: This build and the Templar are very good in PvP. They don’t have a huge amount of DPS but they can outlast most classes as they can absorb a ton of damage with MP Barrier and Magic Barrier and on top of that they can heal themselves making them immortal :) You can severely weaken opponents using Dispel on them and deleting their buffs and you have the ability to cast Reflection which makes you immune to enemy harmful effects and casts them back at them. If you are low on mana or your absorbtion buffs are out you can use the Teleport spell to buy you some time for a recast of them.

Stat Point Build at Level 99

Advantages and Disadvantages of Touring and Static Caravans, and Motor Homes

June 30th, 2009 by processor

With the increase in fuel costs and the financial situation worldwide, 2009 seems like a year were most families will be spending their valuable holiday time in their home country. As a child, our family very seldom went abroad for our annual holidays, instead we would have many weekends and weeks throughout the year at caravan sites up and down the country.

My first recollection of these holidays was in a large static caravan somewhere on the east coast of Scotland but as time moved on we eventually purchased our own touring caravan. It was at this time our weekend breaks took off and it would seem that most Friday evenings after school would be spent travelling. Often the camp sites we would visit were no more than one hours drive from our house but on some occasion they could be up to two or three hours drive away.

Regardless if holidaying in a static caravan or a touring caravan we always had fun and a new place to explore. As a child this seemed wonderful and it must have been these travel and exploring experiences that lead to me becoming a caravan enthusiast in my adulthood. Across the years I have taken my family around the United Kingdom and on many occasions across the English Channel to France, Germany Switzerland in fact a good many of the mainland European countries.

As mentioned previous there are two types of caravan, the static and the touring. What I haven’t mentioned yet is the motor home. These are your 3 choices when considering a caravan holiday and although they all may seem the same they are in fact a lot different from each other.

The touring caravan will be towed by your car to your site of choice. Straight away the choice of touring caravan you have will depend on the size of car you own. Touring caravans are available from small two-berth, easily towed by an average family car up to six-berth, which will require something more substantial like a four x four. With a static caravan you will not be using a car to get it to any site but then again once at your site of choice it would be there for a long time, you had better like the area! The motor home takes away any need for a separate unit to pull the caravan as this is the car and caravan in one package. The disadvantage of the motor home however is, once set up in your camp site you have lost your transport. You will often see motor homes with bicycles attached to the rear or even small motorcycles, and some cases you may even see a large motor home towing a very small car!

The interior space of any caravan is limited but in a static caravan the available space may be utilised better, with separate living areas and bedrooms. The touring caravan and motor homes however will have a seating area that doubles as your bedroom come evening time. Storage of clothes, food and everything else that makes for a good holiday may also be an issue with touring caravans and motor homes. With limited space you are forced into choosing which items you want to bring on holiday and those that you would like but can’t fit in. Obviously with a static caravan you visit often you will be leaving a lot of your clothes and kitchen utensils there reducing the need to transport as much.

A third and final consideration in the decision of touring caravan, static caravan or motor home is luxury. While a basic caravan model may include a fridge, a toilet and a heater the luxury models can include stereos, showers, satellite TV, microwaves and double glazing. In fact today most items found in your home can be found in caravans.

If you are Newsfeed with kids a basic touring caravan will be a great addition to your family, while adding flexibility to your holiday destinations. For a little more luxury for your money check out what motor homes have for you but remember that lack of transport issue. Finally, if you a special place in your heart then you could get a static caravan to visit any time of the year.

Karl talks about caravans all the time and always like to show of his knowledge on the www.caravanmotormover.comcaravan motor mover. He owns a www.caravanmotormover.com/truma-caravan-motor-moverTruma caravan mover but talks about more than just one caravan mover at his blog.

Ordinary Income Vs Capital Gains

June 26th, 2009 by processor

Taxation Concepts: Buying and Selling Stocks

Understanding the tax implications of stock buying and selling is crucial. A working knowledge of basic key concepts will enable the individual investor Linden make smart decisions with the goal of:

1. Maximizing profits

2. Minimizing Tax liability

In this article we will discuss capital gains and ordinary income as it pertains to buying and selling stocks. The primary concepts presented include:

*Capital Gains/Losses

*Long- and Short-term Capital gains/losses

*How to Calculate Capital Gains

*Ordinary Income

*Tax Rates for capital gains and ordinary income

Below is a list of concepts and their definitions. Refer back to the definitions as needed in order to better understand the complexity of the topics discussed.

Helpful Vocabulary

Capital Gains (or loss) = gross profit(loss) from selling an investment, such as from the sale of a stock.

Ordinary Income= as it relates to stocks, refers to interest or dividends earned from stocks. The key point to remember is that the asset is not sold.

Net Capital Gain =net long-term capital gains exceed net short-term losses.

Capital Losses = net capital losses exceed net capital gains

Carryover = Capital Losses exceeded the allowed deduction for the year the losses occurred, therefore, a portion of losses may be permitted to carry over to the following year’s tax return.

There are 2 primary ways to profit from buying and/or selling stocks. In addition, the tax consequences will vary based on the type of profit or loss.

1. Sale of an investment (capital gain/loss)

2. Dividend or interest from stocks (ordinary income)

1. Capital Gain/Loss: Buy Low, Sell High

Investors and traders seek to buy stocks at a low price and sell them at a higher price. The resulting income from this type of transaction is a capital gain (or loss).

To calculate the capital gains of stock transactions, the first step is to figure the *cost basis*: this is how much you paid for the stock, including the brokers commission.

Next, Subtract the cost basis from the sale price plus the broker’s commission. This will give you the amount of capital gain or loss. A loss is realized when the cost basis is greater than the sale price. A gain, obviously, is realized when the sale price is greater than the cost basis.

Example:

An investor buys 100 shares of GOOG (google) at $250 per share. The cost basis of this transaction is $250 x 100 shares, plus broker’s commission of say $25. The total cost basis is $25,025.

Three months later, the investor sells the 100 shares of stock for $300. So, $30,000 plus commission of $25- minus- $25,025 results in a capital gain of $5,000. The investor will then owe capital gains tax on this profit at tax time. This is an example of a short-term capital gain, which will be subjected to a higher tax. (see below for more)

Keep in mind, capital losses can be a tax deduction, up to a point, and will offset the net amount of taxable capital gains.

2. Ordinary Income: Buy and Hold Stocks for earning Interest or Dividends

The second way investors realize profits is to purchase and hold dividend or interest bearing stocks. Interest and dividends are treated as ordinary income and are taxed according to your tax bracket.

Keep in mind ordinary income is not derived from the sale of any investment, rather it’s generated from the investment itself.

* Short-term versus Long-term Capital Gains

The holding time of the asset in question determines if it is short- or long-term. The distinction is important in order to calculate Net Capital Gain and the appropriate tax rate. Be sure to calculate short-term gains/losses separate from the long-term gains/losses.

Step 1

Short-term capital gains and losses are calculated from stocks owned for less than one year. The difference between the losses and gains is the Net short-term gain or loss

Step 2

Long-term capital gains/losses are calculated from stocks owned for one year plus one day. (*Longer than one year) When calculating Net long-term gain/loss you must include any long term capital losses from previous years. This is known as a carryover of losses.

Calculating Capital Gain/Loss: And Paying Taxes

Key Point:

Using a capital gains calculator is much more efficient than pen and paper. Be sure to book mark the calculator to quickly compare the tax difference between short and long-term stock buying and selling.

The tax rate for short-term capital gains is the same as the ordinary tax rate which is determined by your tax bracket.

On the other hand, long-term capital gains tax rate is around 15%, far less than ordinary income tax.

Key point: Capital Gains long term tax rate decreases to 5% when you are in the 15% tax bracket.

Example: Let’s say you are in the 25% tax bracket and you want to determine if it is beneficial to sell your stock now (short-term cap. gain) or wait for the end of the year and one day (long-term).

Your cost basis of the stock xxxx is $4000 ($40 per share) and you want to sell the stock for the current price for $55 per share. We know by selling the stock now the profit (capital gain) is $1,500. (Assume no commissions)

The capital gains tax rate to sell the stock now will be 25%. If you wait, the capital gains tax rate will be 15%. I’ll use the calculator to figure this one, but I don’t have a crystal ball to know what the price of the stock will be in another month or so. So let’s assume it will be about $45, which is the stocks last area of support on the stock chart.

Conclusion:

The net Sale (after-tax) of selling now at $55/share = $51.75 per share ($5175) Compare this to waiting a few months and sell it at $45/share =$44.25 per share($4425).

The total profit is $750 more if the stock was sold now versus later.

The largest profit was realized by selling the stock Now, a time when the price was ripe for profits. Had we waited to capitalize on a lower tax rate, we would have also yielded a much lower profit.

Happiness - The Yin and Yang of Balance

June 24th, 2009 by processor

Happiness is more of a dynamic and living energy than a static or dead state of mind, in my experience. Happiness is more of a balance between dark and light, heavy and light and other seemingly opposite states.

There is city living, like in NYC and then there is more rural, country living. The pace may be different in different places and you have a choice to move and travel. A prime way to live in peace and harmony is to realize polar opposites and find more appreciation for each side of the fence.

Hypnosis is a kind of communication between the different parts of the mind and body. The very rational, analytical brain appreciates logic and is very linear. ABC, 123.

The subconscious mind holds the emotions and the store house of hidden knowledge and power that to some people seems very dark, mysterious and frightening. It is more the place of the imagination and creative flow and is often very symbolic and loops from various stories and ideas and makes connections in fascinating ways.

Find out how you can strive for a better balance that helps you bounce back from difficulties. Learn to find more gratitude and balance and notice all the ways that your life improves.

In this article, I want to share with you some ways to find more true happiness. This will be more about feelings and living states and less about tips and techniques because I believe in walking my walk and talking my talk.

Many of my articles include tips and techniques and other times I write articles that are more about imparting feelings in others. This is easier to do in person, and so I enjoy the challenge of being able to do this in written form, as well.

From my point of view, happiness is more the ability to fully appreciate joy and ecstasy, while realizing there are flip sides to these pleasurable states, as well.

Even in a big city like New York, NYC you can find happiness and it is closer than you realize. A prime example is how something that seems perfect is not necessarily true or real or the best and how some quirk or imperfection can sometimes make all the difference. It just feels right to you and you know it.

Happiness is less about reaching a static state and more about becoming more dynamic and bouncing back from hardship and learning lessons that help you to grow and become an even better person.

Happiness is not a place as much as it is the energies you place around you and that you think about in your mind and feel in your body. Life is a process and so is happiness.

Acceptance is one of the master keys to any real happiness and so as you breath and read and consider which of these points helps you feel the best, you can continue to read onward…

For instance, have you ever noticed how some smiles really light up a room? Often they are not the cliched, picture perfect Hollywood white toothy grin. It is more about the energy of the person and how you can tell it is a real smile that gives the true smile its power to warm you.

The real smile warms you in its glow and as you bask in it you feel really good and happy without needing to know why. There is nothing wrong with having a beautiful, white, straight toothed smile as long as it also has this true warmth. Yet, often the most beautiful face has at least one so called flaw that makes it unique and somehow special.

So when I write the word “happiness” you can consider happiness in these terms and you may discover more happiness in your life and even more good feelings to come. (I am not saying that I am right or correct, yet some people would rather be right than happy)

Also, rather than the static, rosy colored glasses, and all fake smiles, you could realize more of a sense of self acceptance that will radiate outward to all those you meet.

Imagine, just for a moment, even as you are reading these words and wondering about their meaning…your meaning may become more meaningful as you realize more of a sincere and inner sense of calm acceptance, now and from now on…

Self acceptance flows with self respect and most good feelings and experiences flow from those dynamic states.

So from now on there could be the possibility for you to accept more love and happiness as you learn to love and accept more easily. In fact, the more you learn to accept yourself ( flaws and all ) the more you will learn to accept others, and the more they will feel this deeper understanding and wisdom and this will get you more and more happiness.

Some of the above words may have influenced you more than others, just as some people can make you feel better about yourself.

Imagine your life, from now on, where you become more of this type of person who makes others feel good about themselves. It could be that this will make you feel even better about yourself and make others feel even better in your presence and even just thinking about you will bring a real smile to their face and perhaps even make them happy, or happier, too :) Just some good suggestions…
